Bean Thread (Sotanghon)

I have cooked this dish several times now. Aside from the fact that the ingredients are available here, Hubby likes it too. I prefer eating spaghetti before than eating this but now, I love Sotanghon!

There are a variety of preparations for this. You may add shrimps or crab meat, carrots or peas. I tried all and it tasted good. Carrots make it taste sweeter as well as the shrimps and crab meat.

Here are the ingredients (measurements depend on how much you'll cook so i just estimate it everytime i cook):

2 small bundles bean thread (bought at FoodMaxx)
4 pcs pork chops (you may use pork or chicken meat)
1-1/2 cups crab meat or shrimps
1 pc carrot, julienned
1/2 lb cabbage (half of whole small cabbage)
cloves of garlic
1 medium onion
red bell pepper, julienned
tomato and onion greens (optional)
sliced boil eggs(optional)
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1/4 cup soy sauce
creole seasoning (add depending on ur taste, you may use salt and pepper as substitute)
2 cups water
Cooking Instructions:

While preparing for the ingredients, you may soak the bean thread in the water.

Sautee the garlic, onion, pepper and tomato on oil in medium heat.

Add the sliced meat and 1 cup water. Let it cook for at least 30 min. Cook it properly but do not burn. If water evaporates, prepare another 1 cup water for the bean thread later. Add creole seasoning and soy sauce.

Add the shrimps or crab meat, carrots and the peas (if u include it). Add the other cup of water, just enough for the bean thread later. Simmer until vegetables are cooked then add the soaked bean thread and the cabbage. It will only take a minute to cook it. Dont over cook.

When done, You may add onion greens or sliced eggs.
